Africa Food Marketing Reform

The Africa Food Marketing Reform Project is an ambitious and transformative initiative co-created by Community Action for Food Security Africa and Sustainable Solutions for Green Growth. We are proud to introduce a project that stands at the forefront of reshaping how we perceive, access, and interact with food and beverages in Nigeria and across Africa.

Vision

Our vision is simple yet profound: to create a healthier, more transparent, and sustainable food marketing environment in Africa starting in Nigeria. We believe that every individual has the right to make informed choices about what they eat and that our society should promote and protect the well-being of all its members, especially the younger generation.

Mission

Through collaborative efforts, evidence-based strategies, and unwavering dedication, the Africa Food Marketing Reform Project aims to:

  • Develop Evidence-Based Policies: We are working diligently to formulate evidence-based policy recommendations that advocate for stricter regulations on unhealthy food marketing. Our goal is to ensure that misleading health claims, advertising to children, and product placements that promote unhealthy choices become a thing of the past.

  • Raise Public Awareness: Knowledge is power. To empower Nigerians to make healthier food choices, we are launching a multimedia awareness campaign targeting 2 million individuals. This campaign will shine a light on the health risks associated with unhealthy food and beverage consumption.

  • Build a Strong Alliance: Our strength lies in unity. We have established the Food Marketing Reform Alliance, a diverse coalition of stakeholders including NGOs, health organizations, consumer groups, and community leaders. Together, we will advocate for healthier food marketing practices and influence policy decisions.

  • Ensure Industry Compliance: To create a fair and healthier food marketing landscape, we are implementing a robust system to monitor and report violations of food marketing regulations. Our aim is to achieve a 20% reduction in unhealthy food marketing violations within two years.

  • Empower Communities: Knowledge empowers change. We will organize training workshops and seminars for local NGOs, community leaders, and advocates, enhancing their capacity to engage effectively with policymakers, media outlets, and the public.
